For a little while now I have been receiving more and more enquiries for more natural family and baby photography. This of course is very welcome, I adore photographing little people despite how challenging it can be to keep up with them! Babies keep even the most talented of photographers on their toes. It always amuses me how I will prepare for a baby session with lots of sketches and ideas for good poses only to be stumped at the first click of my shutter having forgotten how wriggly these little folk are.
In my experience baby and family photo sessions are difficult to price attractively as they simply take so up much time. With low prices on the high street for a quick studio portrait (then subsequent extortionate pricing for additional prints) the all inclusive fee I charge can be seen as quite an investment up-front. However, I would say that couples are investing in is a session that is entirely unique to them, as well as being natural and relaxed in a way that best reflects their little family at that point in time.
Carly and Neil were one such couple who got in touch and booked me in for photos of their little boy Fraser. Knowing I would need a good few hours with them at their home we arranged a time to suit them both. I absolutely loved the time I spent with all 3 of them, I kept it very relaxed so that Fraser could take a break whenever he needed to and their was no pressure for him to smile or perform for the camera. We moved around the garden and quietly snapped away as Carly and Neil played with him. It was wonderful to watch how loved he is and what brilliant parents they are, I particularly loved the baby surfing, fraser giggling away whilst Neil flew him through the soft grasses.
So next year the plan is to reduce the big weddings a little to give me more time to focus on other areas of my business. As I have mentioned previously I am loving all the elopement weddings and family sessions that come my way but haven’t always had the availability to take them. I really hope you enjoy looking through the images below and if you are looking for a natural photographs of your baby or family please get in touch.
