A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Tom and Beth’s Devon wedding at Ilsington Country House Hotel. I met the couple a few months back for an engagement shoot and I knew immediately that I was going to love being a part of their wedding day. The whole day was a joy to capture, Beth looked absolutely stunning and I loved the tweed suits worn by Tom and his groomsmen. I thought for this blog post I would let Beth tell you a bit about how they both met………
Tom and I met at Ivybridge Community college when he started working there in Sept 2013 , I had already been there for 3 years. It really was love at first sight, despite me playing hard to get for a few weeks to come, we met on the first day of school and there was an instant connection between us. Over the coming weeks we would bump into each other in the corridors, staff room and meetings and always have a really lovely chat, he would often pop to my classroom after school with some covert mission, but I secretly knew that he really just wanted to see me and we would chat away for hours. Tom finally plucked up the courage one day to ask me out, and I now know that as he was coming to my classroom to do so on a Friday evening he actually saw me leaving school! In a bid to make sure he ‘bumped into me’ he ended up running half way across the school and approaching me in the other direction to make it look casual, but at this point he had to pretend he also wasn’t out of breath! He asked me if I wanted to go for a drink that weekend and I actually declined as I had other plans, to which he responded ‘oh ok, well can i take your number?’. We switched numbers and off I went. Tom sent me a text that evening and I did the classic thing of reading it, putting my phone down and thinking I will text you back later, little did I know that I had the iphone ‘read’ message on my text alerts and I then forgot all about the message and never sent a text back! oops! It was only on the Monday when I bumped into him that I realised my mistake, he was really upset and had been fretting about it all weekend. All I could do was apologise! But he forgave me, and I started texting back, and by the October half term we were going on our first date. The rest as they say is history!
He proposed just under a year later on Quinta do Lago beach in Portugal, we went for a stroll in the morning and I turned round and he was on one knee. It was a complete surprise but did explain his slightly odd behaviour in airport security the previous day!
……my dress, was a Mori Lee and I got it from Serenity in Newton Abbot, Jenny who owns the shop is an absolute dream! She makes the whole experience so amazing and is so accommodating with questions, appointments and bridal needs, she will bend over backwards to get you what you want. She has a real knack of making every bride feel like the most special person in the world and it was a truly amazing experience. I would recommend her to all brides.
We chose the Ilsington Country House hotel because of the intimacy and setting of the venue. We both have quite big families so needed somewhere to accommodate everyone, with enough rooms for people to stay for the weekend, we also wanted to be within a reasonable distance to the church and we love Dartmoor! The fact that they had an on sight spa was a bonus too! Richard (the owner) and the team are amazing, we were their only wedding this year as they dont really advertise themselves in that way, so we knew that we were going to get a unique experience and something really tailored to us. And we certainly did, they couldn’t have done enough for us on the day and on the run up to the wedding. They were so efficient and organised it made the whole experience perfect. The food and service were outstanding and many of our guests commented on how brilliant they had been. We are so pleased that we chose them and will be taking every opportunity to go back there over our marital years. Ilsington Country House Hotel could not have been more perfect for us.
