Exeter is probably my favourite city for weddings in the South West. There are some wonderful wedding venues close to the city but the best thing about Exeter is the beautiful Cathedral.
I adore photographing weddings at Exeter Cathedral. The Cathedral building was completed by around 1400, and has several notable features which include the longest uninterrupted vaulted ceiling in England. For me as a wedding photographer not only is Exeter Cathedral interior breathtaking in its beauty but when the sun shines light floods through the stained glass often spotlighting the couple during the ceremony.
The Cathedral walls are made of Salcombe Stone, a sandstone that was quarried from Salcombe Regis in East Devon, I mention this because it has the most incredible luminosity when photographed which makes for a perfect backdrop for the bride and groom. Lastly worth a mention is the 17th century organ which has recently been part of a 1million pound restoration project. For your wedding hymns nothing could be more dramatic and rousing than the sounds produced by its 5000 pipes.
